Another round of Atheists

Jeremy Roberts and I hit the streets of Helena for a nice day of sharing the gospel with those who are perishing. This time we had a special guest with us: my 11 year old daughter Raegan was excited to be with us. We started off at the staggering ox and ran into four lost, 17 year old, atheist, ignorant kids. They had very bad arguments and got most of their information off movies and the Internet as well as public schools. They didn't believe there was a God but they decided if there is a God they hate Him. They did hate God and Christians. They admitted breaking all God's laws and were not at all worried they would end up in Hell. They thought they evolved from an ape and were quite comfortable with all the "evidence" they were taught at school on the subject. They were the typical product of our government schools: God hating, ignorant, with no purpose or clue why they were on earth. I shared what Christ did on the cross, but probably should not have, and they mocked it and argued the typical arguments about the infallibility of the Bible, proof God exists, why did God create man knowing they would be evil. They blamed the God they don't believe in for making them evil. After they got fired up to the point of screaming, I shook their hands and thanked them for the talk and left.

We moved across campus to the downtown. We saw 3 men talking in a park so I did a magic trick for them and asked if they were Christians. Two said they were agnostic and the other man said he was a good old fashion atheist. They were not the typical angry atheists, they were actually nice guys. We went through the law and got into the complexity of the human body, cells, the eyeball and creation. They had some arguments but were open to listening. The old fashioned atheist was a medical student. I explained the substitutionary sacrifice Jesus made on the cross and told them they had a way to be reconciled to God. They didn't seem too convicted. The man in the black with the Russian Orthodox cross seemed most convicted. Seeds planted. The 3 pipe smoking Atheists and myself on the right

We moved downtown and ran into a guy and his girlfriend. They said they grew up Christian and thought they were going to heaven for sure because of their goodness and God's forgiveness. I did a card trick and went into the law. They admitted to breaking them all and thought they would be in Heaven still because God forgives. I had to explain that God can't just forgive people without satisfying His justice in the same way the judge at the court house can't forgive the criminal and let him go. Justice first has to be satisfied. This is where Jesus comes in. I explained how Jesus satisfied God's divine justice and reconciled us to God and to receive the free gift we must repent and put our trust in Jesus Christ. They listened and seemed genuinely open to it. I told them to think seriously about it because they could did tomorrow and they would be in Hell. The gospel seed was planted, only God can save them. The kid had huge ears. He put those earrings in that stretch out the lobe to the size of a 50 cent piece. This seems demonic to me because it mutilates the body. Praise God for the great day.

Salvation is of the Lord

Salvation is the work of God. It is he alone who quickens the soul “dead in trespasses and sins,” and it is he also who maintains the soul in its spiritual life. He is both “Alpha and Omega.” “Salvation is of the Lord.” If I am prayerful, God makes me prayerful; if I have graces, they are God’s gifts to me; if I hold on in a consistent life, it is because he upholds me with his hand. I do nothing whatever towards my own preservation, except what God himself first does in me. Whatever I have, all my goodness is of the Lord alone. Wherein I sin, that is my own; but wherein I act rightly, that is of God, wholly and completely.

A Hard Heart

God was breaking my heart today. At work a man came in from another company and asked to use the phone. I heard him talking about a friend of his that just died the other day who was the same age as him. He said it hit him hard and made him think that he could be next. He went on and on about it. He was using the name of Jesus Christ as a cuss word continually and cussing along with it. I saw the man desperately needed Christ. I prayed for boldness and words while I waited for him to get off the phone so I could share the gospel with him.

The devil had other plans and sent another guy in the room and I never had the chance to witness to him just yet. I had to listen to these two talk for 1 1/2 hours. The lost man cussing and blaspheming the entire time. Every time he did it, it cut me to the heart and gave me such an intense burden to witness to him I was about to explode. Finally I got up and left in hopes the other guy would leave too. My plan worked. I knew where the lost man was working so I met him there.

I asked him about his dead friend and then asked him where he would go when he died. He said he didn't think about it or care. I asked him if he was a Christian and he said he gave up religion a long time ago. He went on and told me of all the hypocrisy he has saw in Christians over the years. I told him about the moral law and took him through the Commandments. He willingly admitted to breaking them all. I asked where God would send him for this. He said he was going to Hell for sure. I shared what Jesus Christ did on the cross and how He bore the wrath of God in his place and offers him a way out of Hell by repenting and trusting in Christ. He was getting very convicted. I explained my motives for sharing the gospel with him and urged him to look into the truth and not judge Jesus Christ by people who say they follow him, but by what He taught. I went over again what Christ taught and explained the gospel and illustrated the gospel over and over. He was very convicted. I told him to look into these things before he died because he, like his friend, could die any second and he would be in Hell. He thanked me for sharing the gospel. I shared my testimony and told him to seek God while he still had a chance.

Praise God for His providential meetings. Pray for this man.

Late Saturday night witnessing

Jeremy Roberts and headed to Helena for another night of sharing the gospel. This time we brought three new people with us. They are from Augusta. We met them at our Bible study in Wolf Creek and they seemed excited to hit the streets with us. The all earned nick-names by the end of the late Saturday night. Andy the gunfighter, Josh the bull whipper, and Joe the excited one. Long story on the nick-names.

We met at 6:30 and took off. Roberts and I witnessed to a couple people who said they were Christians before we met the other guys. Once we met, I witnessed to two people who were smoking in front of the staggering ox. The staggering ox has always been a great place to witness to people. It turned out the kid I was talking to already knew me and said that I talked about Jesus with him before. I shared the gospel with him and his friend again. There didn't seem to be much conviction.

We gave out tracts and the new boys shared the gospel with a tattooed up lady. We moved to Carroll College and Josh and his brother Joe witnessed to a kid smoking. I love smokers because when it is cold out you can always find a smoker outside waiting to be witnessed to. Their conversation went good and a seed was planted.

The campus was dead so we moved to the movie theater and found the same emptiness. We moved down town by the Federal security bank. I challenged Josh to witness to the security guard in his booth because no one as yet. Josh is a man that will take a challenge and he did. Josh and Joe talked with the guy for almost a half hour. Good seed planted.

Jeremy and I went into the walking mall and I found a guy smoking to witness to. He proclaimed his own righteousness like most of the people do. He said he lied but never stole, lusted, coveted or used the Lord's name in vain. He was clearly a liar. I explained God's justice and the penalty of breaking the Law. He didn't outwardly show conviction but I shared the gospel with him anyway. He seemed to understand more when I explained the cross. He said he had to go back to work and left.

We ran into a group of couples that were out on the town. I did a magic trick for them and they liked it. One kid was drinking a lot so he was a little obnoxious. They asked why I stopped them and showed them the trick. I asked them if they were Christians. They thought it was a good idea to do a trick to talk to them about the gospel. They didn't really understand anything. The girl and her half-drunk fiance were Catholic and she was Episcopalian but both were lost. As I asked questions the girl got offended and said she didn't want to talk about this. She said she never believed in heaven and she did not believe in being saved. I don't think she had a concept of what she was even saying. I took them through the law and explained justice because they thought God just forgives everyone on the earth. I told them that God can't forgive without satisfying His justice, which is what Jesus did in our place. The girl disagreed. I argued with her bad logic. She said she didn't have to talk about this. I agreed. She stormed off, expecting everyone to follow but no one did, they all stayed. The other couple had the correct answers and said they were Christians but the half-drunk Catholic who was loud and obnoxious was now humbled. I explained to him the gospel and expressed the urgency of being right with God since he could die any day. He said he would think about it and read the bible. We shook hands and left, seeds planted. The one Christian kid followed us and talked with us privately and told us that he really appreciated us sharing the gospel on the street and he thought we were doing good. He seemed convicted that he was in the place he was. It turned out that I knew his dad and that his parents went to our church. We exhorted him to share the gospel with his friends now that we planted the seed.

It was getting late so we headed back to the truck by the way of the bars. I witnessed to another smoker named Tim. He was also drinking and cussing and treated some women bad. I distracted him with a card trick and began to drill him with the law. He said he had his own religion of Tim and could do what he wanted. He said his god allowed him to cuss, get drunk, lie and every other wicked thing this guy did. He then went on to proclaim how great of a person he was and that he knew for a fact that he was a Christian. His girlfriend was a southern baptist, so she claimed and also thought she was great as they were drinking at the bar. The new boys talked with her. Tim kept getting mad and then calming down. I explained the gospel which he said he knew but in reality he had no clue. He gave me his business card and told me to call him because he loved to talk about God. I gave him a tract in hopes that he would read it in the morning.

The new boys witnessed to some older women outside a bar and we called it a night. Praise God! A lot of seeds were planted and people that would have never heard the gospel in a church heard it this night. Praise God for giving us the privilege of evangelism and for His providential working in the lives of sinners.

A response to those who don't understand that Jesus is God

Why we know Jesus is God

This is a response to the “Christians”, Jehovah Witnesses, Muslim or any other person that doesn’t understand that Jesus is God. My opinion or the opinion of any man does not mean anything. The only thing that does matter is what God says, as revealed in the Scriptures. So, to start off we will look at Scripture to see if the Bible says that Jesus is God.

In 2 Peter we see that the Father is God:

For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased, (2 Peter 1:17)

We see in Revelation 1 that there is someone (the Lord God) claiming to be the Alpha and the Omega:

"I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty." (Revelation 1:8)

Again in Revelation we see that someone is claiming to be the Alpha and the Omega:

And he said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment. (Revelation 21:6)

We see in Revelation 22 that someone is coming quickly and we all would agree the text is referring to Jesus Christ coming back:

"And behold, I am coming soon. Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book." (Revelation 22:7)
"Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay everyone for what he has done. (Revelation 22:12)

We know that Jesus is this person. Look down to the next verse and we see that Jesus is claiming to be the Alpha and the Omega and the first and the last.

I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end." (Revelation 22:13)

Again we see in Revelation 1:17-18 that Jesus claims to be the first and the last. We know this is Jesus because this person is the on that is alive, died, and lives again.

When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, "Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades.
(Revelation 1:17-18)

Now go back to the Old Testament for a shock.

Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts: "I am the first and I am the last; besides me there is no god.
(Isaiah 44:6)

The shocking part is that we see here that God the father is claiming to be the first and the last. This is extremely significant because Jesus also said that He was the first and the last. In this verse in Isaiah the Father not only said he was the first and last but that there in no other god besides Him.

So we see that Jesus and the Father are both claiming to be the First and the last and we know that there is only one God. So, do they contradict each other or is there something more.

Look at Hebrews 1:6

For to which of the angels did God ever say, "You are my Son, today I have begotten you"? Or again, "I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son"? And again, when he brings the firstborn into the world, he says, "Let all God's angels worship him."
(Hebrews 1:5-6)

We see here that the Father is telling all of His angels to worship His Son.

If we cross-reference this with Luke 4:8 we see that Jesus Himself is saying that we should worship the Lord God only.

And Jesus answered him, "It is written, "'You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.'" (Luke 4:8)

This is the nail in the coffin. We have God the Father saying that the Son should be worshiped and we have the Son saying that only God should be worshiped.

The only conclusion could be that Jesus is God, the second person of the Trinity. God the father could only tell others to worship the Son unless the Son Himself was God!

More evidence:

In John 10 Jesus claims that He and the Father are one:

I and the Father are one.
(John 10:30)

What about the fact that Jesus’ name Immanuel means “God with us”:

"Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel" (which means, God with us).
(Matthew 1:23)

We know that Jesus, the Word made flesh, was in the beginning with God and IS God form John 1:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
(John 1:1)

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
(John 1:14)

In John 8, Jesus calls himself by the Fathers name: “I am”:

Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am."
(John 8:58)

The Father calls Himself the “I am” in Exodus 3:

God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM." And he said, "Say this to the people of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you.'"
(Exodus 3:14)

The Bible directly calls Jesus God:

To them belong the patriarchs, and from their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ who is God over all, blessed forever. Amen.
(Romans 9:5)

waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,
(Titus 2:13)

Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:
(2 Peter 1:1)

Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe." Thomas answered him, "My Lord and my God!"
(John 20:27-28)

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
(Isaiah 9:6)

But of the Son he says, "Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom.
(Hebrews 1:8)

To believe that Jesus in not God, is to ignore many God-inspired verses of the Bible. The Bible says this about believing men instead of what God revealed in Scripture about His Son Jesus, who is God, the second person of the God-head, and equal in power and glory:

If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God that he has borne concerning his Son. Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life.
(1 John 5:9-13)

Finally, If Jesus Christ is not God then we are all going to Hell. The only way that God could ever satisfy His divine justice was to kill His own perfect, sinless, self in the person of Jesus Christ. If Jesus wasn’t God then His sacrifice was not sufficient. God could not get divine justice out of killing a sinful man, He had to kill Jesus, His Son, the second person of the God-head.

Friday Night witnessing

Robert's, Peter's, a new kid named Kenny and I met for a cold Friday night of sharing the gospel. We were able, by God's grace, to share the gospel with quiet a few people. Most of the conversations were the typical responses from the people we meet in the world. They would say that they are good people and being good is what determines what it takes to get into heaven. We take them through the Law of God and then they see who they truly are and that they are guilty before God. Some are convicted of their sin and see the need for a Savior and others are not. We explain the gospel to them and they respond in different ways. That is the typical witness encounter which were most of them last night.

One of the unique conversations I had last night was with three guys in their 20's. I did a magic trick for them and asked if they were Christians and they all said no. I asked what they believe happens when someone dies and they said that they would be in the dirt. They thought that was a good thing though and the philosopher of the bunch went on and on about how we are part of the earth and that god is in everything, you know, the typical pantheistic view. The kid dressed in all black said that there is no truth and everything is a lie and that he trusts no one. They admitted breaking all the laws of God but didn't care. They were happy to blaspheme the name of God and still proclaimed themselves as great people that didn't need God. One guy was quiet the whole time and may have been convicted so I shared the cross with them. They could care have cared less. They invited me to a bar to listen to a band and then stormed off seemingly unaffected by the whole conversation other than getting mad at me for saying that Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven and all other religions are wrong.

Response to my Muslim friend

To my Muslim friend,

I will respond to each of your questions.

Your blog very interesting.
But I have some questions for you:

First, why were you believe that Jesus is your God?

I believe Jesus is God because He said He was in the Bible:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light. The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John bore witness about him, and cried out, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.'") And from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
(John 1:1-17)

The Bible also speaks of Jesus as God in Romans 9:5, Titus 2:13, Hebrews 1:1-8, 2 peter 1:1, Isaiah 9:6, Colossians 1:19 and 2:9, and Matthew 1:23.

I also know that Jesus is my God because He satisfied God’s divine justice in my place when He went to the cross. At the cross, Jesus took the full wrath of God and punishment for my sins in my place so I could be made right with God. Because I have sinned against God, I have to pay the penalty, which is death and Hell. Only when my fine has been paid and God’s justice can be satisfied can I ever be in a right standing with God and enter heaven. Jesus did this for me and all those who will repent of their sin and put their faith in Jesus Christ as the payment for them.

Second, what do you response? If you know that Jesus is created by Constantine (the Roman Emperor at 325 AC) and the leaders of Christians in Nicea Convention on 325 AC (After Christ).

You are very misinformed my friend. If you read the Bible we see in the Gospel accounts that Jesus was born around 3 BC or so. Constantine never came until 300 years later. The Torah or Old Testament predicts the birth of Christ from Genesis through the Prophets. Jesus, the Messiah, actually fulfilled hundreds of prophecies in the Old Testament about the Messiah. At the counsel of Nicea in 325 AD the New Testament Cannon was confirmed. The writings of the New Testament that we have today were confirmed to be the books used by the Church since Jesus and that they were inspired by God. They had this counsel to discount all the heretical books being wrote at the time of Constantine. The counsel never made up the books or Jesus, they just confirmed the inspired books of God that the Church has been using for the last 300 years.

Third, how about this information? (1) Deuteronomy 6:4 , “Hear O Israel Yahweh our God is the one, the only Yahweh.” (2) Paul wrote that “God is only one,” in Galatians 3:20 . (3) "I am Yahweh your God . . . You shall have no gods except me,” Exodus 20: 2,3.

I agree with these verses completely. There is only one God, the true and living God. This is what a Christian believes: Jesus is both man and God in two distinct natures and one person forever and the second person of the Godhead. Even though Christians say Jesus is God, we only believe in one God, the true and living God. There is only one God who consists of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These are all one God, the same in substance, equal in power and glory.

Fourth, how about this information? (1) Nowhere in the Bible is the day of worship changed from Saturday to Sunday. This change was not made by the Almighty, but by the Roman Church; (2) The name “Jesus” is derived from the Greek name “Ieasus,” which actually means “son of Zeus.” Sadly, when people call upon the name of Jesus they are actually speaking of Greek mythology.

From the beginning of the world to the resurrection of Christ, God appointed the seventh day of the week to be the weekly Sabbath; and the first day of the week (Sunday) ever since. After Christ was resurrected, Christians began to worship on Sunday because Jesus rose from the dead on Sunday. The Roman Catholic Church never changed this day. The first Christians did this immediately after Jesus rose from the dead. It speaks of this in the book of Acts.

The name Jesus is: Ἰησοῦς
Iēsous
Of Hebrew origin; Jesus (that is, Jehoshua), the name of our Lord and two (three) other Israelites: - Jesus. It is derived from this Hebrew word: יהושׁע יהושׁוּע
yehôshûa‛ yehôshûa‛
Jehovah-saved; Jehoshua (that is, Joshua), the Jewish leader: - Jehoshua, Jehoshuah, Joshua.

It does not mean son of Zeus

Fifth, how about this information? It was Roman Emperor Constantine who mandated Christianity to be the universal religion. Before he did this though, he made huge changes in the faith. Constantine gave several edicts that would separate the church from Biblical Judaism. These decrees mandated ancient pagan practices, like Christmas, Communion, Easter, and Sun day worship, as “Christian.”

Constantine did embrace Christianity but never changed anything in it. The Church is separated from Biblical Judaism on the point of who the messiah is. We as Christians follow the Torah but understand that Jesus was the promised Messiah. The fulfillment of 100’s of prophecies from the Torah confirm this, so the Bible actually separates Christianity from Judaism, not Constantine. Constantine was a man who mad mistakes like we all do.

The decrees mandated by Constantine should not be held as equal with the Bible. The Bible explains everything and is the source we should compare everything to. If Constantine made an edict that contradicted the Bible then Constantine was wrong and the Bible is correct.

Sixth, how about this information? Christianity was corrupted by Paganism. The pure Deism of the first Christians was changed, by the Church of Rome, into the incomprehensible dogma of the trinity. Many of the pagan tenets, invented by the Egyptians and idealized by Plato, were retained as being worthy of belief.

I don’t know where you are getting your information (Probably on an Islamic apologetical web site), but you are misinformed my friend. You should never judge a system by it’s abuses and you should never judge Christianity by anything but the Bible. In the same way, I don’t judge Islam by the terrorists that strap bombs to their selves and murder innocent people. I judge Islam by the teachings of the Koran.

Seventh, how about this information? There are many similarities between the pagan god of Christ and the Christian version of Jesus. For example, Greek mythology tells of Christ bring born to the virgin Isis on December 25.
Like I said before, it doesn’t matter what Greek mythology talks about because Greek mythology is wrong and the Bible is proved correct. Jesus Christ should be judged by His teaching and the whole Scriptures of the New and Old Testaments.

Eighth, how about this information? The word “trinity” cannot be found in the Bible. It wasn’t formally a part of church doctrine until the 4th century, when the Church first began teaching god as being in three separate persons.

I think you are, understandably, misunderstanding the Trinity. Christians believe in ONE God, made up of three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. If you are interested I can send you many Biblical references explaining the Trinity but I don’t want to add 20 pages to this post.

Thanks for you answer.
I hope we can be friend, although we have different perspective.
If you willing visit my blog, and read my article at http://sosiologidakwah.blogspot.com
And... if you love books, read The Holy Qur'an please...

We can be friends but our beliefs will always divide us. We both can’t be correct. Either one of us are or both of us are. I think if you read the Bible plainly, God will reveal truth to you.

Also, I have read the Qur’an. In Surah 9 the Qur’an says:

[9.1] (This is a declaration of) immunity by Allah and His Apostle towards those of the idolaters with whom you made an agreement.
[9.2] So go about in the land for four months and know that you cannot weaken Allah and that Allah will bring disgrace to the unbelievers.
[9.3] And an announcement from Allah and His Apostle to the people on the day of the greater pilgrimage that Allah and His Apostle are free from liability to the idolaters; therefore if you repent, it will be better for you, and if you turn back, then know that you will not weaken Allah; and announce painful punishment to those who disbelieve.
[9.4] Except those of the idolaters with whom you made an agreement, then they have not failed you in anything and have not backed up any one against you, so fulfill their agreement to the end of their term; surely Allah loves those who are careful (of their duty).
[9.5] So when the sacred months have passed away, then slay the idolaters wherever you find them, and take them captives and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush, then if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, leave their way free to them; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

The Qur’an teaches to kill enemies. Jesus taught us to love our enemies. Mat 5:44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you
I have spent some time in your area and have been in your culture. I know some Muslim’s follow this verse in the Qur’an and some don’t. I have been robbed in Malaysia by some bad Muslims and have been helped by some nice Muslims. I just wonder why every Muslim doesn’t follow the Qur’an seriously. It seems to me that if it is the word of Allah then they should follow this verse seriously and slay the idolaters where they find them. I think the reason some don’t follow this verse is because they have conscience and know that it is inherently wrong to kill innocent people.

Thank you for your response on my blog. I hope I answered all of your questions. Please look into these things because your eternal destination depends on what is True.

The eye doctor and the gospel

I was at the eye doctor today getting an eye exam. The doc was explaining to me how the eye works so I asked him if he knew how many nerve endings the eye has. He told me the eye has millions of nerve ending. I asked, "since the eye has millions of nerve endings then it must be pretty complex?" He said it was very complex and that no computer can come close to doing what the eye can do. So I asked him, "If the eye is so complex then it must be designed and have a designer, right?" I looked at me and smiled and said, "yes, it was designed." I knew what I was getting at. I asked if he was a Christian and he hesitantly said yes and went on to say that he follows the bible subjectively. He just picks the parts out of the Bible that he likes and follows them and ignores the rest.

I knew he wasn't saved to I asked him what it took to get to heaven. He gave the typical answer of be good, have faith, have morals. I said, "Oh, like a Muslim?" He got defensive and said that wasn't what he meant. He proclaimed his goodness, even a perfect thought life, that is until I took him through the Law of God, then he was humbled. He admitted to breaking all of God's laws. I explained the good news now that he saw the need for a Savior. I explained to him of the atoning sacrifice Jesus made on the cross. I asked if he ever heard this before and he said, "I never really had anyone explain it like that before." I asked if it made sense and he said that it made good sense. I told him to repent and put his faith in Jesus to save him.

It was a good conversation and a good way to start a conversation with your eye doctor the next time you are getting an exam.

Que Dios Te Bendiga
